Your Opinion: LU debt forgiveness a bad idea

Dear Editor:

More evidence of our continued slide down from the goal of being a Land of Equal Opportunity to a goal of being a Land of Equal Outcome (Equity)?

According to an article in the News Tribune, it appears politicians have made available funds so Lincoln University bureaucrats can "forgive" unpaid tuition and fees for the past year. What "reward" will the students who worked hard to earn money to pre-pay their tuition and fees (like my granddaughter did when she attended LU) receive, a slap in the face?

The New America - a place where if you made good lifestyle decisions, worked hard and lived frugally your reward will be watching politicians and bureaucrats hand out free stuff to those who made poor lifestyle decisions, who didn't work as hard or didn't live as frugally.

No doubt some of those whose debt is being forgiven have made good lifestyle decisions, worked hard and lived frugally, but an across-the-board debt forgiveness is not a good solution.
