Your Opinion: Court could take up discrimination case

Dear Editor:

In October, the U.S. Supreme Court will begin a new session. One of the cases is a complaint that the City of Philadelphia turned down an application for foster care from the Catholic Social Services Agency (CSS). CSS is suing to force Philadelphia to approve them for adoption money. The rejection is because CSS's policy won't allow gay couples to adopt. Federal funds, which are included in Philadelphia-approved funds, are to go only to agencies that do not discriminate. CSS discriminates and wants the taxpayers funding it. This would force Jews, Methodists, Lutherans, Buddhists, atheists, and even gays themselves to be part of the CSS funding through their tax dollars. Surprise, maybe some of the other churches don't hate gays. But making gays pay taxes that supports their discrimination is ludicrous.

CSS admits it discriminates against gays, so whether they discriminate is not the issue.

I find it offensive, besides the above paragraph, is that an affiliate of the Catholic Church, the organization that hid pedophiles, rapists and God only known what kind of sick unsavory creep priests, claim the high moral ground.

I know some absolutely wonderful people, who also just happen to be gay. They are a lot better human beings than some "straight people" I know.
