Dear Editor:

Have you been honked at while driving at the speed limit in the freeway? I have.

Have you joined the rush of drivers exceeding the posted speed limit? I have.

Have you exceeded the posted exit speed from the freeway? We all have.

What is the logical answer to these obvious "scofflaw" violations of legal speed limits? Or are they merely "conservative estimates?"

Perhaps Missouri should increase legal speeds on freeways as some Western states have done. However, as any of us know, who have driven on Western freeways, this has elevated speeds again to 10 mph or more over limits.

It seems the Highway Patrol could pay all expenses by enforcing existing speed limits. But this would also endanger the lives of those on patrol by exciting pistol-packing mommas and papas who think police control is evil and unnecessary. What have we come to?
