Your Opinion: Will the council right history's other wrongs?

Jefferson City

Dear Editor:

Now that the council members of the City of Jefferson thought it wise to remove the plaque that was not racist but simply stating a matter of fact, we all know that the citizens' lives will be greatly improved. Education and economics will improve overnight.

Since the plaque was supposedly removed due to the group that authored the plaque, has the council been through the public library and removed all references and books written by racists and slave owners? When will they right that wrong? Hopefully, Einstein doesn't have anything in the library there. Harriet Beecher Stowe? Abraham Lincoln? How about the name of the very city they are representing - isn't it time to change the name of the city since Thomas Jefferson was a slaveowner and pedophile?

I don't think we here in Mid-Missouri want to join the leftist in San Francisco and remove all references about people who lived in the past. Rather, why don't the eight council members move to San Francisco so they can surround themselves with people who agree with them and want to destroy historical references? I hear they have 44 such places they can take their picks and shovels to out there.

Once you start down a fool's road, it's hard to say how many foolish things a person may do. Since a portion of the City of Jefferson has been removed, how about the citizens of Jefferson have a protest vote and withhold a portion of their taxes come December?
