Nelson Otto

Jefferson City

Dear Editor:

I will be voting yes on 3. Here are my reasons.

First, when those who brought the petition around for the original Clean Missouri, they never mentioned the redistricting. They focused heavily on the lobbyist money because that was the point to "clean" up Missouri government. So when I found out about redistricting, I felt lied to.

Second, the play on emotion and imagery in the commercials. I noticed in many of the commercials that have been playing on the radio, they call politicians dirty, corrupt, using dirty tricks and deceptive. The whole campaign seems childish, poorly written and filled with really weak attempts at comedy. That right there made it seem like they weren't taking the issue seriously, and the negative attacks on the politicians also turned me off because the politicians who created this and support this are actually good people, plus I don't care how the writer of the commercials feel about politicians. I want the facts.

Third, we are told the politicians are the deceptive ones who want to cheat the people of Missouri, but the push and the big money appears to be coming from the opposition. If the politicians really were as corrupt and desperate to hold on to their power as the commercials say they then there would be a huge amount of money being poured are into the yes campaign, and except for a few radio talk show hosts and one sign, I don't see it. I wish there was a big movement but I just don't see one.

Fourth, Amendment 3 won't put Missouri into a place of gerrymandering, just the opposite. It will bring back the bipartisan redistricting process and prevent illegal aliens from being counted for redistricting purposes.

Fifth, look at the people supporting the no on 3. When I saw the names of those supporting and in charge of the opposition, it wiped away all doubt and let me know that yes on Amendment 3 is the right way to be.
