Your Opinion: Good news amid the disappointments

Dear Editor:

Amid all the disappointments of the last few days: A thank you to at least one area health provider where all entrances were staffed with screeners who patiently recorded patient health information and inquired about my travel history. (I hope this was common at all health venues!) I was pleased to know that I was normal, no fever!

The News Tribune has done a great job with meeting/event status. Other positives: In case you have not taken advantage of really low gasoline and fuel prices, it's time to top off your tank. One can drive to see relatives, friends and shut-ins at the lowest prices in Mid-MO in many months! I have never liked the wait in the drive-up at businesses. Too wasteful! Now we can satisfy the need to avoid crowds while spending less on fuel!

Hopefully the rush to stock up on toilet paper, wipes, masks, milk and bread has eased. Panic buying proves only that fear of the unknown or more likely, fear of running out of stuff we think we must have, causes us to "run to the store" (or even worse, several stores) to buy more than we need. Truckers love to boast that America runs on trucks. I doubt we will have a spring ice storm to slow the flow of trucks.

So it is that every grocery has several daily truck visits. Save gas. Go to the store every other day. Or, as my nurse practitioner says, maintain normalcy at a distance! If you really want to enjoy the cheap gas, take a nice Mid-Mo drive in the country. Spring is coming!
