Your Opinion: U.S. once respected, now pitied

Dear Editor:

In 1962, the late United States Ambassador Adlai Stevenson II to the United Nations told the Soviet Union, "Sir, you are in the court of world opinion," and he was willing to wait until hell freezes over for an answer.

Fast forward to 40 days ago even before the tragic murder of George Floyd by police, an Irish newspaper that is not Republican, Democratic, conservative or liberal said it wasn't that long ago the United State was respected, admired for its can-do spirit and sometimes even feared, now it is just to be pitied. Ouch.
