Your Opinion: An accountable moment

Dear Editor:

President Donald Trump's memorable statement of "I'm smarter than all the generals" obviously doesn't apply to his mastery of political dos and don'ts. His "Art of the Deal" theories may readily apply to real estate bartering. But in the real world, attempting to throw dirt on a political rival by withholding military aid to an allied country is a "no-no." If he didn't know that during the "accountable moment," he will during his impeachment trial.

There is plentiful proof by documents and eye witnesses to his nefarious activities. His only salvation from losing his title of president is the Republican-controlled Senate. They will vote as a body in an attempt to allow Trump to continue his less-than-honorable ways. The evidence is so overwhelming of Trump's guilt that the Senate will not allow witnesses to be heard. In the final vote, Trump may evade expulsion from office with a chorus of Republican senators stating the words that saved O.J. Simpson from prosecution for murder.

Those words with a slight change may be used once more to save Trump's title of president of the United States. "If the charge doesn't fit, you must acquit."
