Dear Editor:

I appreciate the News Tribune's stand on accepting refugees into Missouri. I appreciate also the governor's stand supporting the acceptance of refugees.

A usual concern of some who oppose such resettlement is economic. They fear welfare expenses. Yes, some may go on welfare. How long will this last? What about their children?

The children of refugees will speak better English. This will render them more employable. Short-term pain. Long-term gain.

Yes, I "borrowed" that phrase from a certain government official. I would like to thank him.

Thank you, again, to this newspaper and to the governor.
