Your Opinion: Response to Holzem

Dear Editor:

In a recent letter Mr. Holzem wrote about the polar vortex and tried to link it to climate change or, more accurately, global warming. Yet he also wrote about weather and that weather changes. When the weather can be used to support the narrative, then it is climate change, yet when it doesn’t it is just weather. Even in his own letter he switches back and forth calling it extreme weather and the next climate change caused by global warming. Sorry you can’t have it both ways. There is an interesting article entitled “We’ve Become Dumber: Media Rushes To Tie Record-Breaking Cold On Global Warming.”

While Mr. Holzem stated that 2014 -2018 are the warmest years in record, he didn’t bother to explain that 2015 and 2016 were El Nino years and that the temp has been dropping since then. The big question is how much of a change in world temperatures are we talking about, 10 or 15 degrees? No, we are talking about tenths of a degree. The big temperature rise between 2008 and 2016 is only four-tenths of a degree. Between 2016 and 2018 the temperature has dropped two-tenths of a degree, or by half. There is a really interesting Op Ed in the Western Journal titled” “Media Hysteria: Climate Change ‘Heat Records’ Are a huge Data Manipulation” by Jay Lehr & Tom Harris that gets into how alarmists cherry pick data to support the narrative.

The most important issue is do we really want to put our faith in people such as Dr. Steven Schneider, lead author of numerous alarming U.N. climate reports and former professor of climatology at Stanford who was reported by Forbes as saying “We need broad-based support to capture the public’s imagination, we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.” I see a lot of videos about how to manipulate people, especially politicians on Citizens’ Climate Lobby web sites.

Of all the solutions possible to the concept of Climate Change, Citizens’ Climate Lobby focuses mainly on the carbon tax/dividend. Which will do nothing to reduce world carbon emissions. What is interesting is to see people drooling at the prospect of getting a dividend that was taken from someone who earned it.
