Your Opinion: $600 unemployment checks needed for jobless, economy

Dear Editor:

Were the protesting and some destruction so far doing civil rights any good, especially for Black people? I would say yes. I believe things are changing finally, hopefully.

Republicans still see it all as anti-police, anti-American on and on, etc. People to the "left of right" do get it. More and more people here and worldwide see the bad treatment of Black Americans by "some" police officers and it is bad considering our history as a nation.

I believe it is getting better for Black people in these United States; it is slow, but it is moving and progressing.

Change of subject now. Those $600 checks for unemployment make people lazy, they don't want to work. I'm not sold on that Republican philosophy. It seems true, but in reality, is it true for the majority of jobless folks? I don't think so really.

I think Charles Schumer of the U.S. Senate is closer to the truth. Most of those people getting those $600 checks are helping keep what's left of our economy going. Without that money, probably more businesses would close. Our economy would slump even more. A depression anyone? The government could put those unemployed to work like in the 1930s under Roosevelt. Idleness is bad, but I think those $600 checks are keeping us going.
