Your Opinion: City should consider fiscal impact notes

Dear Editor:

I observed, with interest, at recent City Council meetings discussions about proposed changes in sidewalk maintenance requirements.

There was much discussion about additional expenses to homeowners.

Public safety is important. Homeowner financial solvency is important also.

Perhaps we need “citizen-impact fiscal notes” attached to proposed legislation. This might be addressed at the City Charter level.

I would like to suggest that various governments ask the question, “What will this bill do to the cost of living?”

Perhaps governments can learn to make life more affordable, not less.
