Your Opinion: Impeachable offense?

Dear Editor:

Has President Trump been proven of an impeachable offense? I don't think so. For those of you who do not remember your history, President Ronald Reagan did commit an impeachable offense.

What am I referring to? The Iran-Contra affair. The weapon sales started in Iran. Senior administration officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, which was the subject of an arms embargo. It was supposed to free seven American hostages. But the secret sales started in 1981 before any hostages were taken.

When it came to light the investigation was impeded when a lot of the documents relating to the affair were destroyed or withheld from the investigators by Reagan administration officials. How convenient.

It was investigated by Congress and a three-person committee who were appointed by guess who? That's right, by President Reagan. How interesting that they found there was no evidence that President Reagan knew the extent of the programs. Fourteen officials were indicted, there were 11 convictions, but not the president. Some of the convictions were vacated on appeal. The rest of those indicted or convicted were all pardoned in the final days of George H. W. Bush's presidency, who happened to be President Reagan's vice president at time of the Iran-Contra affair. This can all be researched online at Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it, what did President Trump do that is even remotely close to this?
