Your Opinion: Complying with Revenue exasperating

Dear Editor:

As of October 2020, people will need a Real ID to fly commercially in the U.S. My experience trying to comply with the "rules" of what is acceptable from the Department of Revenue is exasperating (Might I remind you they have access to all tax revenue records etc on their computers). But they will not look anything up themselves, reasoning they need a "hard copy." Of course the "hard copy" is looked over by a clerk and if deemed acceptable she makes a check mark on a sheet of paper. I so wanted so say, look this up, print it out, hard copy!

If you are a woman and you have multiple marriages, you will need original or certified copies of your marriage certificates. Ladies, I hope you kept your maiden name as this makes the paper work easier. My personal experience was to call the clerk and recorder of another state to get a copy mailed to me. I naively reasoned the envelope with my address, that matched the address on my driver's license, that matched the document in my hand would be good enough to show proof of residency, that and my bank statement. Wrong!

There are so many silly things wrong with this system I could write many more lines. Unfortunately there is not enough space to do so. But one biggy would be, "use common sense!"
