Your Opinion: Irresponsibility continues

Dear Editor:

The irresponsibility in government continues each and every day at all levels - federal down to the local. One of the possible charges against our president is contempt of Congress. I say there is definitely contempt of Congress - but from almost all citizens with any common sense. This impeachment farce is no more than an attempted cover-up of crimes and misuse of office of those in elected and in other federal service, and an attempt to degrade the president's reputation prior to the next election. The Democrats are showing nothing but irresponsible partisan politics and are wasting time and money.

I read this past Tuesday that the state spent $200,000 for an earthquake simulator. Where is oversight? We hear from SEMA spokesperson, Ms. Caty Eisterhold, that this was a no-bid project award to a sole-source contractor due to its uniqueness. Someone should check the expenditure process for any irregularities or inappropriate lobbying. The article further enlightens us that this is a federal grant as if not to count against state budget needs. It is public taxes.

To obtain first-hand knowledge of the shaking, these nuts could just go to Kirkwood Magic House or STL Science Center or many other venues to get that thrill without wasting our taxes! Or better yet, just give these goofballs that don't know effects of earthquakes (and want to experience a level 7 or 8 quake) a ride in the back of a pickup down a bumpy county road.

Bills have been introduced for the next legislative session to include a new gasoline tax. If the existing gas taxes were spent only on viable road and bridges instead of sidewalks and similar diversion projects, there would be less need for any new gas taxes.

An opinion last week voiced concern of a round-a-bout at Dunklin and Clark - indicating the two access ramp locations at either end of the interchange would be a better choice. That letter was seconded Wednesday. I agree that those two ramp locations would better serve traffic congestion in that area. Yet, the council at the last meeting approved purchase of property at the Dunklin location as if it was a pre-destined staff decision set in gold.

Wake up and get these people making irresponsible decisions and wasting our taxes out of our government - elected, or otherwise.
