Positive cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations in Cole County have trended down over the last month, Health Department Director Kristi Campbell told the County Commission on Tuesday.

"In September, there were a couple of days where the number of positive cases was in the 20s. And in October, we didn't have a single day with over 20 cases reported," Campbell said. "Our hospitals are reporting only single-digit positive cases, but they are taking transfer cases from other areas.

"A couple of weekends ago, one of the hospitals reported zero positive cases," she said.

The county's dashboard that tracks COVID-19 cases did get a large jump in positive cases Tuesday because of a reporting issue with a local healthcare system, she said. The reporting issue resulted in a backlog of data for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The positive cases date back to the first week of October.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, CCHD reported 109 new non-long-term care facilities positive cases, going from 11,202 on Monday to 11,311 on Tuesday. The number of positive cases in long-term care facilities stayed the same at 286.

Campbell told commissioners the health department would start doing COVID vaccinations again beginning Thursday at the department on West Truman Boulevard.

"We will offer the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines," Campbell said. "Even if you got your first two doses of Moderna (which they don't have right now), you can get a Pfizer vaccine as a booster dose. Mixing of vaccines has been determined to be just fine," she said.
