Residents looking for unique materials for do-it-yourself projects or historical home renovations will have a chance to peruse antique items this weekend.

Historic City of Jefferson is hosting its first Architectural Salvage Sale on Saturday. HCJ Executive Director Anne Green said they plan to make the event monthly.

Every fourth Saturday, HCJ will open the doors of their offices at 601 E. High St. to let interested residents browse their collection.

Available items range from old doors and windows to cast iron bathtubs, antique furniture and lighting fixtures. Green estimates around 500 items are available.

"There's been growing interest in this," Green said. "Sometimes people are using these for craft projects, sometimes they're using them to renovate their own historic home or they're adding a historic feature to their newer home. We're happy to see it."

Green said HCJ was able to salvage the items from historic homes in the area. Some were collected from buildings that were damaged in the May 2019 tornado and others that had to be demolished due to structural issues.

Some items have been donated to HCJ from people who own and are renovating historic homes. Those interested in donating items can contact HCJ.

Green said the salvage sales will be similar to exploring an antique mall or other stores. All items are priced, and attendees can browse the inventory.

"Kind of like a little farmers market only focused on architectural salvage," she said.

In the future, Green said HCJ hopes to add food trucks and local vendors for crafts and similar items to the event.

"For the past year and a half, we've just been doing it by appointment only, but there's been so much interest within the community to see and purchase these items that we're going to start having regular monthly hours," Green said.

The architectural salvage sale will be 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Historic City of Jefferson offices, 601 E. High St.
