Street marking and painting work is planned in downtown Jefferson City this week.

Sam Gaines Construction Company will perform the work over four nights, starting at 7 p.m. and ending by 7 a.m. the following morning.

The work will begin in the 300 block of East High Street at the Adams Street intersection and move west through the 100 block of East High Street, including the 200 block of Madison Street.

The road and related parking in the active work zone will be closed.

Typically, this will affect a half-block at one time, city officials said.

Closure and detour signs will be posted and moved with the active work zone.

Vehicles will be able to access the Madison Street parking garage entrance during the majority of this work, but will be directed to the Capitol Avenue entrance during the limited time when access will be unavailable to the Madison Street entrance.

City staff had planned for the downtown streetscape project to be complete by the end of November, but rain and snow delayed construction.

The Jefferson City Council allocated $775,000 between November 2017 and March 2018 for downtown streetscape, sidewalk and street repairs. The council also allocated $350,000 in March 2018 for electricity improvements in the 100-200 blocks of East High Street and at the intersection of East High and Madison streets.
