Jefferson City public works officials have released the schedule for the remainder of work on the downtown streetscape and electric improvement project.

Workers with contractor Sam Gaines Construction closed parking on the south side of the 100 block of East High Street this week, along with eastbound traffic going from Jefferson Street to Madison Street. This will allow the contractor to finish removing and replacing all sidewalks on the south side.

After the south-side work is complete, the contractor will move the work zone to the north side of the 100 block of East High Street. This means the south-side parking and eastbound traffic will be open, but the north-side parking lane and westbound traffic lane (traffic going from Madison Street to Jefferson Street) will be closed. Public works officials anticipate this move to occur Thursday afternoon or evening, allowing the contractor to finish removing and replacing all sidewalks on the north side, between Jefferson Street and the east edge of 115 E. High St.

Next Monday, the contractor will close the 300 block of Madison Street between High Street and Wall Way. High Street will not be closed. This will allow the contractor to finish roadway work related to the new electrical system. This work is anticipated to be complete before the Helias Catholic High School Homecoming Parade on Sept. 27.

Also Monday, the contractor will close the 200 block of Madison Street between High Street and the city parking garage entrance. High Street and the parking garage entrance will remain open, but Wall Way access to this block will be closed. This will allow the contractor to reconstruct the mid-block area and related sidewalk/curbing south of it. Once work is completed, the closed area will be modified to allow for remaining construction in the 200 block of Madison Street. It's anticipated the 200 block of Madison Street should completely re-open by mid-October.

After work on Madison Street is completed, construction will move back into the 100 block of East High Street. Workers will close the north parking lane and westbound traffic lane (Madison Street to Jefferson Street) between Madison Street and just west of the mid-block. This will allow the contractor to finish removal and replacements on the north side between 115 E. High St. and Madison Street. It's anticipated this work will take a week or two, depending on weather.

By mid- to late October, after all concrete work is complete, workers will mill, overlay and re-strip the streets. This work will be conducted around events and will be weather-dependent.
