Kansas City police ID 2 drivers killed in wrong-way crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Police in Kansas City have identified two people killed in a crash on Interstate 29 caused by a wrong-way driver.

The crash happened just after 5:30 a.m. Monday when a car driven by Oree French, 60, of Kansas City, Missouri, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the interstate, police said. The car then collided head-on with another car driven by Roslyn Esau, 23, also of Kansas City, investigators said.

Police said Esau died at the scene of the crash. French was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

This article was edited at 4:57 a.m. Sept. 12, 2021, with an Associated Press correction indicating French was the driver of the car traveling wrong-way, not Esau.
