ST. LOUIS (AP) - Investigators in eastern Missouri are searching for a driver who left the scene after fatally running over a man on Missouri Highway 100 in Franklin County southwest of St. Louis.

The crash happened early Sunday in the unincorporated village of Villa Ridge, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Jason Gilley, 56, of Villa Ridge, was walking in the right lane at the highway's intersection with Cromwell Drive just after 3 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Gilley was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Investigating troopers found a passenger-side mirror believed to be from a pickup truck at the crash site, but do not immediately know the make or model of the vehicle it came from.
