Police: Shooting in St. Louis injures 11-year-old girl

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A shooting at an apartment in St. Louis' Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood has injured an 11-year-old girl, police said.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday, hitting the girl in one of her arms, police said. The girl was in stable condition later Wednesday night, according to police.

Police did not release other details on the shooting, but a neighbor told television station KMOV that a she heard dozens of gunshots.

Police investigators also were seen combing an alleyway and street outside the apartment for evidence, and police towed away a car that crashed near the shooting scene, the station reported.

St Louis has seen a surge of gun violence involving children in the last year. More than 100 children have been the victim of gun violence in St. Louis this year, including several fatal shootings.
