JCPD lieutenant gets prestigious honor

Jefferson City Police Department Lt. Dave Williams received the prestigious Clarence M. Kelley Meritorious Award on Sept. 9 at the Kansas/Western Missouri FBI National Academy Chapter conference banquet in Lake Ozark.

The Clarence M. Kelley award is given to a graduate of the FBI National Academy who has shown an outstanding dedication and service during their exemplary career in law enforcement.

Nominees are considered and chosen by their chapter peers to receive the award.

Williams has received several awards throughout his career. He was selected to participate as an executive fellow with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms in Washington, D.C., for a seven-month stint in 2012-2013. He was the only officer selected in the United States from any discipline, including police, sheriff or state patrols.

Williams attended the Dignitary Protection Detail training in Alabama and has worked with the United States Secret Service during several VIP details. In 2013, he was selected as a peer reviewer for the Bureau of Justice Assistance grant program through the U.S. Department of Justice.

Williams is an instructor with the Missouri Sheriff's Association and the Missouri Highway Patrol. He is also the recipient of the Juneteenth Jefferson City Emancipation Award from Lincoln University in 2017 and the Enoch B. Morelock award from the United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri for outstanding moral character and service to his community in 2019.

In 2019, Williams was recognized as the Jefferson City 'Employee of the Year' for his efforts.

Away from his law enforcement activities, Williams spends time at the Special Learning Center assisting children with disabilities and has been a guardian for the Central Missouri Honor Flight, escorting veterans on their journey to Washington, D.C.

He is a member of his local Elks Lodge and was recently named to a national position in that organization.
