Volunteers needed for Outdoor Games

More than 1,000 Special Olympics Missouri athletes, coaches and unified partners are coming to Jefferson City to compete during the next two weekends.

Volunteers are needed.

The 2021 State Outdoor Games begin Saturday at Blair Oaks High School (bocce) and at Binder Sports Complex (softball).

The games continue Oct. 2 at Capital City High School (tennis), Oak Hills Golf Course (golf) and the Special Olympics Training for Life Campus (flag football).

The event requires more than 350 volunteers. Volunteer opportunities remain in bocce, softball, golf, tennis and flag football. Opportunities range from helping athletes at tournament events, preparing for events, and photographing and video recording competitions. Visit the SOMO website for information on volunteering and to register.

Special Olympics is dedicated to improving the overall health and fitness of the athletes through organized sports training and competition, and by providing free health screenings through the Healthy Athletes program. The Healthy Athletes Park will be 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Blair Oaks High School.
