Following what Missouri Department of Transportation officials said was an "extensive evaluation process," two qualified teams have been selected to compete for the contract to design and construct Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements along state roadways in Central Missouri.

The purpose of the project is to complete MoDOT's ADA Transition plan in 19 counties in the Central and Northwest districts, bringing dozens of locations into ADA compliance. The cost of the work is estimated to be around $23.1 million.

The following teams (in no particular order) were selected to further develop proposals on the project:

- MidMO ADA Partners Team Bartlett & West; Sam Gaines Construction Inc.; Concrete Solutions LLC; Aplex Inc.; JD Bishop Construction Inc.; and Civil Design Inc.

- Lehman-Wilson Team Lehman Construction LLC; Wilson and Company LLC; HG Consult Inc.; Merge Midwest; VSM; McClure Engineering; SCM Construction; and Central Missouri Professional Services.

There are still opportunities for additional consultants and subcontracting firms to be added to each team, according to MoDOT officials.

Design-build projects combine the design and construction phases into one contract. The selected team completes the design and construction in parallel instead of in succession. MoDOT provides the project goals, budget and schedule, and the contractor team conducts the work. According to MoDOT officials, this technique has been known to significantly save time and money. MoDOT will issue the request for proposals in the coming weeks. Proposals will be due in January and the design-build team is expected to be selected in March. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.
