Registration deadline nears for Nov. 2 election

On Nov. 2, Jefferson City residents will vote on a one-quarter of 1 percent sales tax to improve public safety.

The deadline to register for the Nov. 2 election is at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6.

If you live in the city and are not properly registered at your current address, you will need to update it, Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer said. An address change form is available at colecounty.org/clerk or you can come to the clerk's office on the second floor of the Cole County Courthouse Annex on East High Street. The office is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Absentee voting in the clerk's office for the November special election will begin Tuesday and run through 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

Those who would like to make an application for an absentee ballot for themselves or a family member who will not be able to vote on Election Day are asked to do so as soon as possible to make sure the ballots get back to the clerk's office by 7 p.m. on Election Day. The deadline for the clerk's office to mail out absentee ballots is at 5 p.m. Oct. 20. For more information, contact the clerk's office at 573-634-9101.
