JC man indicted in sexual misconduct case

A man charged with sexual misconduct at a Jefferson City pool in July has been indicted by the Cole County Grand Jury.

Shane Steck, 41, was indicted on three counts of attempted enticement of a child and three counts of sexual misconduct, all of which are felonies. The indictments indicate the jury found there was enough evidence to send the cases to the circuit courts for possible trial.

On July 20, the Jefferson City Police Department 911 Center received a call from a parent reporting a man exposed himself in the women's bathroom to a small child at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park, according to a JCPD report. The caller reported the suspect had fled in a black SUV.

Investigators identified a vehicle and registration shortly thereafter. The suspect, later identified as Steck, was located at his residence and taken into custody.

Once at the police department, Steck agreed to provide a statement.

Authorities said Steck, a registered sex offender, admitted to being at the park during the time of the crime. During the interview, Steck allegedly admitted to being in a bathroom, exposing his genitals and fleeing the park in a black SUV.
