A Jefferson City woman is facing multiple charges for allegedly firing a weapon in an attempt to keep drug addicts away from her residence.

Tonia Dunger, 53, is charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and delivering prohibited articles to a jail, along with a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement states officers went to the 300 block of West Ashley Street on Saturday night after a person was reported to have fired a single shot in the air and went back inside her residence.

Officers were told about a disturbance outside of Dunger's residence where a witness said they saw Dunger fire the shot. Another witness told police she had done this to scare one of the people involved in the disturbance.

When first contacted by authorities, Dunger allegedly claimed someone else fired the shot, but eventually said she did fire the weapon into the air because she was "tired of drug addicts responding to her residence."

Officers searched Dunger's residence and reportedly found a 9mm gun under a pillow in her bedroom and a 9mm shell casing outside her residence.

As she was being booked into the Cole County Jail, authorities said they found illegal narcotics on her.
