Cause for house fire is currently under investigation

The cause for a Friday morning house fire in Jefferson City is under investigation.

According to Jefferson City Fire Department reports, firefighters responded to a fire at 5:47 a.m. in the 1700 block of Southwest Boulevard. The first crews on the scene reported smoke and fire coming from a lower level apartment. Both levels of the structure sustained fire and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.

The Jefferson City Fire Department believes the fire started in the kitchen, but it is unknown what started the fire.

Three adults were displaced by the fire, and the American Red Cross assisted in finding them temporary shelter.
