Jefferson City man charged with kidnapping

A Jefferson City man faces assault and kidnapping charges after an incident Monday.

Michael Bardwell, 42, was charged with third-degree kidnapping and fourth-degree domestic assault.

Jefferson City police responded Monday to a disturbance along the 2400 block of St. Louis Road, a probable cause statement said. Responding police reportedly heard voices from within the residence, but no one responded to knocks on the door.

The woman exited the residence a short time later and told police she and her boyfriend, Bardwell, were arguing in the basement and that he had locked her in there before heading upstairs. He claimed to not understand his Miranda rights when arrested.
