A Jefferson City man is facing three counts of first-degree statutory rape for incidents that allegedly occurred between August 2019 and September of this year.

Larry McDonald Jr., 34, is also facing one count of first-degree statutory sodomy.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement states the mother of the 10-year-old victim found what amounted to be a diary on the child’s cellphone in September. In it, the victim talks about being sexually assaulted and identified the assailant as McDonald, who was at the time the mother’s live-in boyfriend.

Investigators interviewed the victim who claimed the assaults started when she was 9 years old and McDonald paid her $5 to remain quiet about the first incident, leaving the money under her pillow. After another incident occurred, the victim reportedly told authorities she wrote a note in her cellphone hoping someone would find it, which her mother eventually did.

The victim said other instances with McDonald that made her feel “uncomfortable” included him touching her inappropriately and whispering in her ear that he loved her. The victim also claimed McDonald told her to not tell her mother or he would “not allow her to see any other siblings or family members.”

McDonald was taken into custody Tuesday, but would not talk to authorities without an attorney present.
