MoDOT work to impact travel in Callaway County next week

Maintenance work will close one lane of U.S. 54 in Callaway County next week.

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will close the westbound lane of U.S. 54 between the Audrain County line and County Road 2002 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

MoDOT crews will be repairing pavement along the shoulder in the area.

Adam Pulley, MoDOT Central District communications manager, said the department is not anticipating any significant traffic delays because of the work and the lane closure is scheduled for a time when there is less traffic.

“There’s always the potential for delays to develop, so we encourage folks to plan a little extra time if they’re going to be going through there just in case,” Pulley said.

Pulley said drivers traveling westbound in Callaway County should be aware of major delays along Interstate 70, however.

Since September, contracted crews from Emery Sapp & Sons have been working on the rehabilitation of the Auxvasse Creek bridge.

The $1.2 million project involves replacing the guardrail and expansion joint, rehabilitating bearings and repairing the structural steel girder end.

The work requires one lane to be closed on the westbound bridge 24 hours a day and has caused major delays during peak driving times in the afternoon and evening.

MoDOT doesn’t have assigned detours in place, but drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes.

Work on the Auxvasse Creek bridge is expected to be complete before the end of the year.
