Walls are in at Transformational Housing

An effort to help provide affordable housing in Jefferson City is passing another milestone.

Organizers of Transformational Housing - a nonprofit whose goal is to provide temporary, affordable housing - announced this week it has completed rough framing inside its building at 203 Cherry St.

The nonprofit is working closely with other nonprofits that provide relationship- focused approaches to addressing clients' needs.

Transformational housing will rent units in the building at below-market rates, but will require tenants to enroll in programs, set goals and create stability in their homes.

The apartment building is prepared for subcontractors - such as electricians, plumbers, heating and cooling system installers, and others - to come in and provide their services.

The nonprofit invites folks to come visit the building 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Much like volunteers and clients do in Habitat for Humanity homes, you are invited to tour the site and write a prayer or words of encouragement on the bare studs before they're covered.

Transformational Housing board members will be on hand to speak with visitors.
