Interviews on tap to fill Missouri Supreme Court vacancy

Interviews will take place next week for applicants for the vacancy on the Missouri Supreme Court created by the retirement of Judge Laura Denvir Stith in March.

The interviews will be:

- 1-4:30 p.m. May 19

- 9 a.m.-12:05 p.m. and 1:15-4:20 p.m. May 20

- 9-10:10 a.m. May 21.

The interview process is open to the public, but specific details about which interviewees are scheduled for which times is not available.

There are 25 applicants, eight of whom are female and four who are minorities. Ten are employed outside the Kansas City, Springfield and St. Louis metropolitan areas. Fifteen applicants work in the public sector, seven work in the private sector and three work in both. Of those in the private sector, three work in a solo or small-firm practice. Of those in the public sector, 15 are judges.

All interviews will be conducted in the Division I courtroom of the Supreme Court Building on West High Street in Jefferson City.

The commission intends to provide a closed-circuit stream (video and audio) into the Court's Division 2 courtroom. Seating availability will be limited due to COVID-19 precautions, and visitors will be required to wear masks or facial coverings.
