Charges filed against an individual arrested for a weapons offense Sunday morning in Jefferson City.

A Jefferson City man was charged Monday for a weapons offense that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to Jefferson City Police Department reports, at approximately 6:52 a.m. the 911 Center began receiving calls indicating shots were being fired in the 600 block of Linn Street.

Multiple witnesses provided a description of the suspect as well as the vehicle being used to leave the scene. Officers located the suspect vehicle two blocks from the scene and took the passenger, Earnest Woodiest, 30, who matched the description of the suspect, into custody.

Responding officers reportedly located multiple spent casings and a firearm near the scene of the shots fired. No one was injured as a result of the weapons discharge.

Once in custody, Woodiest was read his Miranda warning and authorities said he admitted to being intoxicated and discharging the firearm into the air while in a disturbance.

Monday morning, the Cole County Prosecutor's Office charged Woodiest with felony counts of unlawful possession of a concealable firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
