Probation ordered in Jefferson City stealing cases

Two Jefferson City women have been placed on five years of supervised probation for felony stealing in two separate cases in Cole County Judge Dan Green's court.

Somer Nichols, 23, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $8,000 from Sam's Club in Jefferson City over a span of three months in 2018.

Sam's Club employees contacted the Jefferson City Police Department about a theft, according to a JCPD probable cause statement.

Employees told an officer Nichols, also a Sam's Club employee, had been stealing from the store by making returns from Sam's Club members' purchases and refunding the money to gift cards and her own personal debit card.

Nichols admitted to stealing the money and stated, "'I just don't have the money' and 'I have another child on the way and just wasn't thinking.'"

As part of her probation, Nichols must pay $8,120 in restitution.

Jessica Hake, 32, pleaded guilty to stealing bank bags in August 2019 from the Sonic restaurant on Commerce Drive.

The manager of the restaurant reported Hake had taken two bank bags to deposit at Central Bank, according to a JCPD probable cause statement. However, the manager received a call from Central Bank saying they had not received either of the bags. Another employee reported driving Hake's vehicle a few days later and noticed a bank bag in her driver door.

When questioned, Hake told officers she didn't know what had happened to the other bag and claimed it might have fallen out of her vehicle when she stopped to put oil in.

As part of her probation, Hake was ordered to pay $1,336 in restitution.
