Appointments open for Friday's COVID-19 vaccination event in Jefferson City

Several open appointments remain for the mass COVID-19 vaccination scheduled Friday at The Linc in Jefferson City, according to the Cole County Health Department.

To inquire about scheduling a vaccination, call the COVID-19 hotline at 877-435-8411. If asked for the event code, it is 65991.

Registrants must be qualified to receive the vaccine under the state of Missouri's vaccine distribution system. Those currently eligible are in Phase 1A or 1B Tier 1, 2 or 3. This includes Missouri residents over 65 and those with pre-existing conditions as well as those who work in a variety of sectors including education.

If you are unsure about your eligibility, visit covidvaccine.mo.gov for more information.

When you call, press 1 for help registering. Wait on the line to talk to an agent, who will be able to schedule an appointment even if you have not registered online.

As of Thursday afternoon there were "several hundred spots to fill," Cole County Health Department Director Kristi Campbell said.

"We started out making this event primarily for educators and had given them a code to be able to get the first slots in this event," Campbell said.

The newest tier of workers to be qualified under the state's vaccination plan, including school staff, could start getting vaccines Monday.

"We had expected to have around 1,500 of those workers come to this event, but we ended up with 1,000," Campbell said. "It appears many had signed up at other locations and were able to get the vaccine from other providers."

They still plan to give 2,300 doses of the Pfizer vaccine Friday. The second-dose event for those receiving vaccines Friday will be held April 9 at The Linc at the same scheduled time as a person's first dose appointment.
