JC Schools revisiting weekly early release days

The Jefferson City Board of Education will revisit the school district's weekly early release days proposal Monday.

The proposal is for weekly 70-minute early release days on most Mondays to allow for more staff professional development time in the 2021-22 school year.

At the Feb. 22 board meeting, the board voted to approve the 2021-22 calendar without the weekly early release days at that time.

The board will revisit and discuss the proposal Monday.

It was added to the agenda to continue discussions about it, and the board doesn't necessarily have to come to a decision, JC Schools Communications Director Ryan Burns said.

"The district is in the process of collecting information and continuing discussions to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our staff for ongoing professional development," Burns said.

The board will vote Monday on whether to approve a budget amendment and the fiscal year 2022 preliminary budget, to be presented by JC Schools Chief Financial Officer Jason Hoffman.

The board will also vote on whether to award contracts to the following companies: Bias Lawn Care and Landscaping for lawn maintenance renewal; Foresight for Thomas Jefferson Middle School roof repair; and Don Schneiders Excavating Company for improvements at Lawson Elementary School, Nichols Career Center, Miller Performing Arts Center and Southwest Early Childhood Center.

Other agenda items include interpreting service agreements with Deaf Heart Interpreting Service and Access Interpreters as well as reports from Hoffman, Superintendent Larry Linthacum and Chief of Learning Shelby Scarbrough.

The meeting is 6 p.m. Monday at the Miller Performing Arts Center auditorium, 501 Madison St. in Jefferson City. It will also be livestreamed on the JCSchools Videos YouTube channel.
