Jefferson City police report 2 crashes on Missouri 179 Sunday

Three people were hurt in two vehicle crashes Sunday evening in Jefferson City.

The crashes occurred at 5:44 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Missouri 179, according to Jefferson City Police Department reports.

Ronald Johnson 74, along with Marcella Johnson, 74, both of Jefferson City, were traveling north on Missouri 179 when their vehicle began to hydroplane, striking a guardrail, running off the roadway, and going down the embankment to the right of the roadway. The couple were transported by EMS to a hospital in Jefferson City for treatment of minor injuries.

Moments later, in the same area, a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old from Jefferson City struck the same guardrail and began to spin 360 degrees. The vehicle came to rest on the roadway until officers arrived to render assistance. The juvenile was transported to University Hospital in Columbia by EMS for evaluation of minor injuries.

Traffic was restricted in the area to one lane for approximately one hour.
