The facility, currently under construction, will bear the name Goldschmidt Outpatient Surgery Center after the hospital accepted a large donation from the local family.

A philanthropic family's name will grace another building at Capital Region Medical Center.

The Peter and Dana Goldschmidt family provided a "substantial" donation to CRMC's new Outpatient Surgery Center, hospital President Gaspare Calvaruso said Friday.

The family name already adorns the hospital's cancer center at 1432 Southwest Blvd. in Jefferson City.

The family members have been "tremendous supporters of Capital Region over the years," Calvaruso said during a news conference Friday morning.

In 2008, they made a contribution that helped bring about the cancer center.

Because of the family's "major gift," the new center will be named the Goldschmidt Surgery Center.

CRMC in November announced its intention to spend $20 million on the new 24,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center that will include four surgical rooms. It is being built in space formerly used for parking under the 5-year-old physicians' office building of the hospital at 1125 Madison St. Construction is expected to be completed in 2022.

During the news conference, the Capital Region Medical Foundation announced it has set a goal to raise $1.2 million to go toward the surgery center. Friday's donation is included in the foundation's goal.
