Capital Region Medical Center is one of 140 hospitals nationwide to receive recognition for its treatment of heart attack patients in 2021.

The American College of Cardiology presented the hospital with its National Cardiovascular Data Registry Chest Pain-Myocardial Infarction Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award. To receive the award, CRMC had to demonstrate sustained achievement in chest pain treatment for two years.

The 2021 award marks the fourth consecutive time the hospital has received it, according to a CRMC news release.

The award signifies CRMC treats patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

When hospitals participate fully in the registry, they engage in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

"The Chest Pain-MI Registry empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients," the release said.
