A Jefferson City woman has been placed on two years of unsupervised probation in connection with a Columbia arson case.

Alruekia Brown-Wells, 30, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Boone County Judge Stephanie Morrell to two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.

She originally faced felony charges of first-degree arson and endangering the welfare of a child, but prosecutors amended those.

Columbia police responded April 5 to a report of a disturbance at Columbia Square Apartments, located in the 1000 block of Claudell Lane, according to Columbia Police Department reports. Officers located Brown-Wells and discovered she had also been involved in setting a fire outside of a residence. The Columbia Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire.
