Construction to begin Monday on Ashland roundabout

ASHLAND - Construction begins Monday for a project that will add a roundabout to the intersection of Broadway (Boone County Route M) and Henry Clay Boulevard in Ashland.

The start of the project, facilitated by the Missouri Department of Transportation, will result in closure of part of Henry Clay Boulevard immediately north of the intersection. The road will remain closed through early August, MoDOT said in a release. Broadway is expected to remain open with lane closures.

The intersection, just west of U.S. 63 in Ashland, is one of the city's most frequented, backing up during peak hours nearly to the highway exit. It currently has four-way stop signs, but a traffic study conducted by Ashland found a roundabout would be the most economical solution due to the angle of where the roads cross.

Sam Gaines Construction gave the lowest bid on the project at $1,571,073. That cost is split evenly between Ashland and MoDOT, with the city responsible for any additional money required for the project.
