A Jefferson City man pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting arrest in a case from August 2019.

During a hearing before Cole County Judge Dan Green, Eric Rogers, 27, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest.

He was placed on two years of unsupervised probation. If he fails to meet requirements of his probation, he faces a year in the Cole County Jail.

Prosecutors dismissed a felony receiving stolen property charge Rogers was facing and amended the resisting arrest charge down from a felony.

According to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement, Rogers was seen walking in front of the police department on East McCarty Street.

An officer noticed Rogers matched the description of a person being sought in a burglary case.

The officer noted Rogers was walking with a limp and believed that was due to him shooting himself in the foot during the burglary.

The officer tried to stop Rogers, but he fled on foot and threw away a shoulder bag he was carrying in the 300 block of West Ashley Street.

Rogers was eventually caught near the intersection of Jackson and East McCarty streets.

Officers recovered the bag and reportedly found a handgun inside. A check of computer records found it had been reported stolen in Cole County.

When questioned, Rogers said he ran because he knew there was a warrant for his arrest. A computer check found there was a warrant for Rogers out of Saline County for failure to appear.
