Two accused of breaking into laundry complex's machines

A man from Paris, Missouri, and a woman from Vandalia have been charged with breaking into laundry machines in a Jefferson City apartment complex between March and April.

Zachary Jennings, 31, and Elizha Hopkins, 39, are each charged with felony first-degree property damage and felony stealing.

The couple is believed to have committed as many as 13 break-ins at DeVille Southwest on Southwest Boulevard, according to Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements.

Authorities said Jennings broke into the machines while Hopkins acted as his lookout. The two are believed to have taken nearly $1,000 from the change receptacles of the washers and dryers while causing more than $1,100 in damages to the machines.

The two were caught after they were spotted on security camera footage, authorities said.
