The Jefferson City Animal Shelter will change its hours next month due to staffing concerns.

Starting Aug. 14, the shelter will be closed on weekends but will stay open slightly later during the week.

Currently, the shelter is open from noon-4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Hours will shift to noon- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Lt. David Williams, public information officer for the Jefferson City Police Department, which oversees the animal shelter, said the adjustment is a result of staffing.

"Our goal is to continue providing excellent service to our community," Williams said.
