A man was arrested Tuesday morning for alleged sexual misconduct at a Jefferson City pool.

The 911 Center received a call about 11 a.m. from a parent reporting a man had exposed himself in the women's bathroom to a small child at Ellis Porter Riverside Park, according to a Jefferson City Police Department report. The caller reported the suspect had fled the park in a black SUV.

Investigators identified a vehicle and registration shortly thereafter. The suspect, later identified as Shane Steck, 41, of Jefferson City, was located at his residence at approximately 2:30 p.m. and taken into custody.

Once at the police department, Steck agreed to provide a statement.

Authorities said Steck, a registered sex offender, admitted to being at the park during the time of the crime. During the interview, Steck allegedly admitted to being in a bathroom and having his genitals exposed and to fleeing the park in a black SUV.

Steck was formally charged Wednesday morning with one count of felony sexual misconduct involving a child.
