JCHS Winter Sports Week royalty announced

Jefferson City High School celebrated Winter Sports Week from Jan. 19-22.

The week kicked off Tuesday with a boys basketball game against Helias Catholic High School at Fleming Fieldhouse and ended Friday with a PowerBuff volleyball game at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Spirit days included "Like Mike - Twin Day," "Class Colors," "Ref vs. Superfan" and "Jay Day."

Homecoming Queen Sydney Maria Vogt is the daughter of Jennie and Micheal Vogt. Her activities include Jays volleyball, Student Council, National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, and Muffins and Ministry. Her awards include volleyball varsity letterman, Zonta Student of the Month and the Volleyball Jay Pride Award. She is considering attending the University of Missouri to major in biochemistry.

Ella Jewell Berendzen is the daughter of Rick and Buffy Berendzen. Her activities include Jays softball, Letterman, National Honor Society and Health Occupations Students of America. She plans to play Jays soccer in the spring. Her awards include three years of Scholar-Athlete Award and four years on the honor roll. She is considering attending the University of Missouri to major in health professions.

Alivia Grace Bise is the daughter of Stephanie and Branden Bise. Her activities include acapella, chorale, JC Riot, Drama Club and Jefferson City High School musicals. She is considering attending Paul Michell School to major in cosmetology.

Kara Kaye Daly is the daughter of Kristin and Joe Daly. Her activities include Jays varsity softball, Jays varsity basketball, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Muffins and Ministry, and Astronomy Club. Her awards include Scholar-Athlete and Hawthorn Bank Feature Athlete. She is considering attending the University of Missouri to major in physical therapy.

Haille Malia Smith is the daughter of John Smith. Her activities include National Honor Society, International Thespian Society, Dance Team, and Jays varsity track and field. Her awards include Athlete of the Semester, Student of the Month and Student-Athlete Scholar. She is considering attending Colorado Christian University to major in elementary and special education.

Sarah Elizabeth Tuck is the daughter of Denise and John Tuck. Her activities include Lady Jays golf, Student Council, student body president, Muffins and Ministry, Multimedia Club, National Honor Society, Refuge Youth Group, Trail Nine Team leader, and Astronomy Club. Her high school awards include AP Scholar Award, Scholar-Athlete and honor roll. She is considering attending the University of Colorado to major in geography and environmental science.

Homecoming King Zach James Leary is the son of Kate and Alan Leary. His activities include Jays soccer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Muffins and Ministry, and Astronomy Club. His awards include Second Team All-District for soccer, Second Team All-Conference and the Scholar-Athlete Award. He is considering attending State Fair Community College or Moberly Area Community College.

Bassil Diab Ahmed is the son of Nada and Diab Ahmed. His activities include National Honor Society, Jays football and Jays soccer. His awards include the AP Scholar Award, First Team All-State and All Region Offensive Player of the Year. He is considering attending the University of Missouri or Truman State University to major in biology pre-med and minor in health science.

Breck Connor McGrail is the son of Cindy and Matt McGrail. His activities include Jays soccer and Astronomy Club. His awards include First Team All-District and All-State. He is considering attending Columbia College, Westminster College or William Woods University to major in physical therapy or education.

Andrew Charles Nield is the son of Cheryl and Tom Nield. His activities include Jays cross country, Jays track, Student Council, DECA and National Honor Society. His awards include Michael Beachon Service Above Self Award, Eagle Scout, and four-year letterman in cross country and track. He is considering attending Drury University to major in architecture.

Jackson Isais Stevens is the son of Dulce and Bryan Stevens. His activities include drumline, Jays golf, Symphonic Band and Astronomy Club. His awards include Percussion Junior Officer and honor roll. He is considering attending Ouachita University or Williams Baptist College to major in nursing.
