Most municipal races in Cole County will be unopposed

Many seats on area municipal boards will be up for election April 6, and most candidates will be running for re-election to their current posts unopposed.

In Centertown, there are three trustee seats with two-year terms on the ballot. Adam Brown, who is the chairman of the board, filed for re-election, as did Heather Hunger. City Clerk Debra Baker filed for the position currently held by Celine Whitaker, who is not running for re-election. No one filed for the one-year alderman seat so it will be filled by a write-in candidate.

In Russellville, two incumbent aldermen filed for re-election. Ken Bishop filed for the West alderman post; Sharon Williams filed for the East alderman seat.

In Lohman, incumbent aldermen Patti Duncan and Shawn Higgins are seeking re-election.

There are three positions on the ballot in St. Martins. For mayor, the only candidate to file was Daryl Raithel. Eugene Strobel is stepping down after serving two terms as mayor of St. Martins. Laura Boeckmann filed for the South Alderman position, as Keith Kliethermes moved outside the city limits, which means he can no longer serve on the board. No one filed to run for the North Alderman position, currently held by Scott Amos, so it will be filled by a write-in candidate.

In St. Thomas, Debbie Buschjost and Darrel Buechter filed for re-election as aldermen.

In Taos, Wayne Thoenen filed for re-election to his Ward 1 alderman seat. Ronald Walker filed for the Ward 2 post currently held by Travis Schaefer who did not file for re-election.

In Wardsville, current aldermen Bill Gratz and Rick Taube filed for re-election to the village's two open seats.

All Cole County voters will be asked whether the county's half-cent sales tax for capital improvements should be renewed for another five years.
