CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - Two women were killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 55 just north of Cape Girardeau in southeastern Missouri, police said.
The crash happened Thursday afternoon when a northbound car crossed the median into oncoming traffic and collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle, the Southeast Missourian reported.
Police said a passenger in the car - an 18-year-old woman from Cape Girardeau - was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 77-year-old from Galesburg, Illinois, who was a passenger in the SUV later died at a hospital, police said. Their names were not immediately released.
The drivers of both vehicles were seriously injured in the crash, Cape Girardeau police said.
